Biographies of our Speakers

Image previewElizabeth Preston is an experienced healthcare professional with a varied clinical and managerial career in the NHS. She trained at Guy’s Hospital London and subsequently in neurosciences at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. She moved to Edinburgh from Manchester to take up a sister’s post in neurosurgery. She subsequently took up a management position in Neurosciences and from there gained an MBA from Edinburgh Napier University and an MSc in Advanced Leadership Practice from Harvard Business School / Edinburgh Napier University along with a Post Graduate Diploma in Health Economics from the University of Aberdeen.

Elizabeth has managed many services in NHS Lothian, but cancer services remain her passion. She was the Clinical Lead for the TCAT programme in the South East Scotland Cancer Network and has always been passionate about improving services for patients and supporting the staff to undertake change.

She is now a Director of Synaptik, which is a Healthcare Consultancy based in Dunfermline, providing organisational & personal development and coaching, along with supplementary staffing for Health Boards.

Image previewEd Clifton is the Unit Head of the Scottish Health Technologies Group (SHTG). SHTG is a national health technology assessment (HTA) agency that provides evidence support and advice to NHS Scotland on the use of new and existing health technologies which are not medicines and which are likely to have significant implications for people’s care. Prior to his current role, Ed has gained over 10 years of experience working as an economist within NHS Scotland, most recently as a Senior Health Economist within Healthcare Improvement Scotland.

Knowing that a customised approach is fundamentally important for successful submissions to national agencies, Brenda has led AXIS Consulting’s recent expansion of market access services to Scotland and BeNeLuxAI.

Brenda holds a BA (Hons) in Business, a Diploma (Hons) in Financial Management and a MSc (Hons) in Health Economics. A member of Ireland’s Institute of Directors, Brenda is also a member of the National University of Ireland, Galway’s Investment committee having previously been a member of the University’s Risk & Audit committee.
